The taste of shallots is similar to onion and garlic. This dehydrated version is light, but very rich in flavor with the slightest bit of heat. One of the smallest varieties of the onion family, shallots have a pear-shaped bulb thats made of two to three cloves. The subtle yet distinct flavor is great for flavoring stews, soups, vinaigrettes, and sauces.
Spice Fun Fact: The scallion and the shallots names were both derived from Ascalonia (the Latin name for Ashkelon), as this is where the ancient Greeks believed their origin to be.
