Roasted Green Tea Mint
A warming Japanese green tea perfect for colder months. Red shiso adds a gently spicy flavor and purply hue that complements Houjicha's nutty brew. Ginger provides a mild heat to balance the other herbaceous botanicals like peppermint leaf, which brings an uplifting minty note.
What is Houjicha? While it looks dark, Houjicha is technically a green tea, offering a uniquely smooth flavor with accents of chocolate, coffee, and roasted barley. During tea processing, the leaves go through an additional roasting step that transforms the green tea into light brown leaves that brew an amber-red infusion. This roasting step also slightly lowers the caffeine level, making for a mild cup that is delicious any time of day or night.
What is Shiso? Shiso is an aromatic leafy herb from the same botanical family as mint. Available in green and red varieties, shiso leaves have a fresh, citrusy flavor with hints of cinnamon, clove, and mint. With texture similar to fresh mint leaves, they have a somewhat astringent and bitter finish, particularly red shiso. Fresh green shisho is often used as a garnish in Japanese cuisine.
