Although a close cousin to Greek oregano, Mexican oregano is also related to lemon verbena. Mexican oregano is considered stronger, more earthy, and pungent in its aroma and flavor compared to its Mediterranean counterpart. Mexican oregano is as essential to chili powder as Greek oregano is to pizza.

Spice Fun Fact: Native to Central and South America, this type of oregano comes from the Lippia Graveolens plant and is a member of the same family as lemon verbena.
