Although now available in a variety of colors, the classic bell pepper is either red or green. Bell peppers are sometimes grouped with less pungent pepper varieties as sweet peppers. Native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, pepper seeds were later carried to Spain in 1493. Green peppers are less sweet and slightly more bitter than red peppers.
Spice Fun Fact: Named by Christopher Columbus, bell peppers are handpicked at different stages of maturity depending on the desired taste and color.
