Citric Acid

Citric acid (also known as sour or citric salt) is a naturally occurring, tart-tasting, weak organic acid formed in citrus fruits. It is extracted from the juices of the fruits and made into a white powder forming a natural preservative. It is used to add an acidic (sour) taste to foods and soft drinks and as a firming compound in products such as canned tomatoes.



Spice Fun Fact: First isolated in 1784, this preservative occurs naturally in citrus fruits and is used in many foods and beverages to add an acidic or sour taste.
