Old City Chili is created with Matanzas Chili Spice Blend which features St Augustine's native Datil Pepper for a deep chili blend. Paired with a rich tomato base, this satisfying chili is perfect for those who love an extra boost of flavor (and a kick of heat)!
Ingredients

Steakhouse Spice Blend (grinder), to taste

3 Tbsp. Sweet Onion Sugar

7 Tbsp. Matanzas Chili Spice Blend
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 lb ground sirloin
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 large bell pepper, coarsely chopped
- ½ of a 15 oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed
- ½ of a 15.5 oz. can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 - 29 oz. can tomato sauce
- 1 - 28 oz. can whole peeled tomatoes
- 1 - 6 oz. can of tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp. minced garlic
- Chopped scallions (optional topping)
- Shredded cheese (optional topping)
Directions
- ADD ground beef, ground sirloin, onion, and bell pepper to a 6 qt (or larger) pan.
- ADD about 45 twists of Steakhouse Spice Blend and then brown meat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until evenly browned. Drain.
- ADD black beans, kidney beans, tomato sauce, tomatoes (squeeze in your hand before adding to break into pieces), tomato paste, garlic, Sweet Onion Sugar, and Matanzas Chili Spice Blend.
- SIMMER uncovered for about 30-45 mins., stirring occasionally.
- IF desired, top with chopped scallions and shredded cheese. Serve.
