Juniper Berry - Whole

Found in cooler climates, rather than the tropics and the only species of the juniper tree to provide this edible berry (which is actually a soft cone similar to a pine-cone). The flavor of juniper berry is a pine-like spicy taste. It is commonly used to freshen and mellow the rich flavor of gamey or fatty foods. It gives sauerkraut its distinctive flavor, and is used to make Gin.
